Zahawi slammed for sharing advert saying Lynch runs Labour as RMT boss lays into Starmer

Mick Lynch urged Sir Keir Starmer not to be a “vanilla politician” and to back workers’ rights.

It was a strange evening, as it always is these days to be fair. It began with Nadhim Zahawi claiming Mick Lynch runs the Labour Party.

Then just hours later Mick Lynch called out the Labour leader for not attending a gathering of thousands of demonstrators gathered near Downing Street to protest against the controversial strikes Bill.

Both of them can’t be right surely?

Zahawi

Tax avoiding (sorry paying) Nadhim posted an advert with a picture of Mick Lynch with a tiny Starmer in his top pocket.

He also wrote: “Surprise surprise, #SameOldLabour have just voted against protecting hardworking people from damaging strikes. They know where their funding comes from. We know who’s running the show.”

The advert is pure misinformation though.

The RMT does not fund the Labour party or fully back them as you will see below.

The union was properly affiliated with the Labour Party but ended this link in 2004

Lynch

However, Mick Lynch wouldn’t agree, he was joined Labour backbenchers Zara Sultana and Bell Ribeiro-Addy, SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn and Jeremy Corbyn, as he made a speech to crowds on Whitehall on last night.

He told the crowd: “Where’s the Labour front bench? When are they going to stand up with rest of the labour movement?”

Mick Lynch urged Sir Keir Starmer not to be a “vanilla politician” and to back workers’ rights.

However, deputy leader Angela Rayner promised last night that Labour would repeal the government’s anti-strikes bill.

Rayner said it was one of the most “indefensible and foolish pieces of legislation to come before this House in modern times.”
