The benefits of Brexit are slim, some would say they are zero, but now Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has told the world some of the benefits of leaving the EU.

The PM made the comments as has arrived in Japan.

He was there to announce a new defence partnership with the country and support £18bn of private business deals, ahead of the G7 summit aimed at addressing the threats of Russia and China.

Immigration

Also, Rishi Sunak has also risked inflaming the never ending Tory row about immigration.

In 2019 the Conservative party manifesto said: “There will be fewer lower-skilled migrants and overall numbers will come down.”

At the time annual net immigration was running at 226,000, which meant the Conservative Party might have been able to see numbers below this figure.

However, net immigration in 2022 is likely to running at a record high of around 700,000, figures next week are likely to show.

Cheaper sanitary products where?? There’s so many people still in period poverty across the U.K. because the cost of living crisis means they cannot afford sanitary products 🙃 https://t.co/Yo1geTs9v8

We cut VAT on period products after yrs of campaigning from women’s rights campaigners *before the referendum ever happened-the govt never made sure the savings were passed onto consumers
It was the 1st time the opposition amended a Gvmt budget. Have you forgotten, @RishiSunak? https://t.co/l4lN0WffCF
