After violent clashes outside a Merseyside hotel in Knowsley accommodating asylum seekers, Suella Braverman’s comments on the disorder have come under fire.

Fifteen people, including a 13-year-old boy, have been arrested after the serious incident.

A police van was set alight and missiles including lit fireworks were thrown at officers.

Thirteen males and two women, aged between 13 and 54, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said: “They turned up armed with hammers and fireworks to cause as much trouble as they could and their actions could have resulted in members of the public and police officers being seriously injured, or worse.”

So did Home Secretary Suella Braverman calm this down? Not really no.

She said: “I condemn the appalling disorder in Knowsley last night. The alleged behaviour of some asylum seekers is never an excuse for violence and intimidation.

“Thank you to [Merseyside Police] officers for keeping everyone safe.”

1.

David Lammy had this to say…

Suella Braverman condemned the violence this weekend but seemed to justify the anger. @DavidLammy uses the Home Secretary's own words against her 👏 pic.twitter.com/Ck3bkbuAtz

Instead of calling out the far right extremists who amongst other things, torched a police van, you shift your comment to the victims of this targeted abused, refugee asylum seekers.

It's the equivalent of sorry, not sorry.

3.

Reports state it was 'fake' information
Reports indicate protest was orchestrated by 'far right' group – who I believe have also posted their presence in the area.
In this tweet you victim blame by mentioning the alleged behaviour and make no reference to the far right at all

Appalling that the Home Secretary herself stokes the fires of division when violence is already with us, rather than acts as a responsible national leader to calm tensions.

She's not fit to be in office. Any Prime Minister who doesn't act to stop this provocation isn't either. https://t.co/1pCKa6eCHb
