MP Chris Bryant claimed that in extraordinary circumstances, some members were “forced” to vote a certain way.
The Chief Whip, Wendy Morton, allegedly resigned as the events in the lobby were taking place.
Craig Whittaker, the deputy chief whip, is also believed to have resigned.
However in another U-turn by the government it was later announced they had both remained in their positions.
