Brexit Jacob Rees-Mogg two things that are so well linked they can never be apart. Like the captain of the Titanic is is duty bound to go down with the ship. He has nailed himself to the mast, so even if he tried to move away from it, there is no way he could.
So, he has double, tripled and quadrupled down on Brexit.
It can’t fail as it has become him. Admitting Brexit is a failure is akin to chopping one of his limbs off, nobody would ever do that, unless it was so gangrenous there was no other way.
Brexit Jacob Rees-Mogg
Now the Moggster, former minister for Brexit opportunities, has now claimed that Brexit saved a nation, and not ours, of course….
He claims a ‘benefit’ of the UK’s exit from the European Union made it “impossible for [Russia’s president Vladimir] Putin to succeed” in illegally invading Ukraine.
Speaking on Sky News’s Sophy Ridge, Rees-Mogg said the UK was able to show “global leadership” in responding to the war.
Rees-Mogg continued: “Putin would probably have invaded Ukraine successfully if the UK had been bound in by the requirement of sincere cooperation and had had to follow a Franco-German line in dealing with Russia – which is what we did in 2014.”
The presenter, like many of us, wanted to know how he had squared this circle,
So Sophy Ridge wanted to double check if his comments meant he believed the psycho Russian leader would have successfully invaded Ukraine if we remained an EU member post-2020
In response, Rees-Mogg replied: “I think the leadership shown by Boris Johnson – which he could only do because he was not bound by sincere cooperation – ensured that a coalition was set up which made it impossible for Putin to succeed.
“I think if that hadn’t been the case – we’d been bound by this concept of sincere cooperation – we would have had the mucky compromise that was delivered in 2014 when Russia invaded the Crimea.”
