Brexit: DUP claims of ‘colonisation’ swiftly dealt with by Femi on social media

The DUP is still battling the protocol.

Earlier this week Nigel Dodds, a former deputy leader of the DUP, indicated that the DUP would not be supporting any deal that continued regulatory divergence between Northern Ireland and Great Britain, claiming this would continue the “colonisation” of Northern Ireland by the EU.

A government source said: “The DUP have published in black and white what their seven tests are. We believe this meets them, otherwise we wouldn’t have brought the negotiation team home nearly a week ago.”

More work to be done

Today, the DUP leader, Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, said progress has been made across several areas but further work is required before a deal on the Northern Ireland protocol is struck.

He said: “Clearly this is a big moment, the next generation of Northern Ireland and its people requires us all, I think, collectively, to use our best efforts – particularly the prime minister and the European Commission president – to get these issues resolved and to get to a place where the political institutions can be restored.

“The decisions that will be taken by the prime minister and by the European Commission will either consign Northern Ireland to more division or they will clear a path towards healing and to the restoration of the political institutions.

“Over the last 48 hours we’ve been engaging with officials and met the prime minister last evening and this morning.

“We have not yet seen the final text of an agreement, clearly there will be further discussions between the UK government and the European Union but I think it is safe to say that progress has been made across a range of areas, but there are still some areas where further work is required.”

Northern Ireland, a place whose borders were carved out by another country based on religion, controlled by decisions made in that country, and Dodds thinks an UK/EU trade deal makes the EU the colonisers.

Femi

But it was Femi who probably sums his comment up for you?

He tweeted: “DUP’s Nigel Dodds says the EU has “colonised” Northern Ireland. Firstly… *Screams in Black*

Secondly… *Screams on behalf of Ireland and everywhere else on these islands that isn’t England*

He then followed up with…

“Hey

@NigelDoddsDUP, You spent 2 years propping up the Tories, insisting you know what you had voted for. WELL THIS IS WHAT YOU VOTED FOR!”

This comments follow Femi.
