Tesco and Aldi are limiting customers to three units of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers as a precautionary measure, while Asda is also limiting customers on some fresh produce.
It comes as meme about the food shortages is going viral.
The shortages of some fresh fruit and vegetables could be the “tip of the iceberg”, the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) has said.
The NFU’s deputy president, Tom Bradshaw, said a reliance on imports had left the UK particularly exposed to “shock weather events”.
He also acknowledged that the current shortage was an indirect result of Brexit.
Bradshaw added: “It’s really interesting that before Brexit we didn’t used to source anything, or very little, from Morocco but we’ve been forced to go further afield and now these climatic shocks becoming more prevalent have had a real impact on the food available on our shelves today.”
Also Former CEO of Sainsbury’s Justin King blamed Brexit.
So did Liz Webster from Save British Farming.
So the food shortages are the fault of Brexit or other external factors, or maybe both?
Either way, the famous starting sequence from legendary comedy Dad’s Army has been reworked and it is amusing, well if it wasn’t so serious…
