In the John Wick universe, the High Table has a far-reaching influence.
The Continental and its sister organisations link countless hired guns from all over the world in a vast underground criminal world of rules and customs.
And, while we often see it through the eyes of John Wick, every time he hits the streets, he affects the lives of so many others.
Lionsgate is now bringing one of their stories to the big screen with Ballerina, a John Wick spin-off. The spin-off will centre on a ballet dancer who seeks vengeance for the deaths of her loved ones.
Ana de Armas will also appear in the upcoming Ballerina film. Recently, it was announced that The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus would appear in the John Wick film.
Who else is in the movie?
In addition to de Armas, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Gabriel Byrne will appear.
In addition, Ian McShane will reprise his role as Winston, the manager of The Continental Hotel, from John Wick 4.
And, in extremely exciting news, Deadline reports that Keanu Reeves is in talks to play John Wick himself in Ballerina.
De Armas appears to have confirmed the news, mentioning that she and Reeves shared some battle scenes.
Anjelica Huston will also reprise her role as The Director in the upcoming John Wick film. She’ll be joined by Lance Reddick, who returns as Charon, one of the Continental Hotel’s concierges.
Production on the film has also begun. Ballerina will be directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard).
When does it take place?
Ballerina takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and the upcoming Chapter 4, according to franchise star Keanu Reeves.
The new John Wick film will centre on “a young female assassin seeking vengeance against the people who murdered her family,” and is based on a character introduced in the third John Wick film.
It’s unclear who that is, but as Deadline points out, Unity Phelan is listed in the role credits as “Ballerina” in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
